50 years ago .... "A Change is Gonna Come"
Fifty years ago today, The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said it his way. At that same event on the Mall in DC, Bob Dylan said it his way. But if Dylan isn't your cup of tea, how about this 1963 track from Sam Cooke.

I just watched the complete, unedited film of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech, the focal moment we celebrate today. And I am reminded, that, before the 60's were over, three prominent martyrs would die from assassin's bullets: first in Dallas, Texas, then in Los Angeles, California, and finally Dr. King himself on a balcony in Memphis, Tennessee.
And I'm reminded of a song Bob Marley sang in 1980:
"...How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ...
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs ..."
I heard one exceptional oration of freedom, equality and redemption this evening.
